Save the Humans

To date, only one of my three children has expressed a sincere interest in repentance and turning to the Lord for forgiveness and mercy.  Only one is baptized.  The other two pray.  They listen to the bible read to them.  They come and worship at church with us.  But only one has genuinely come to a saving knowledge of the truth as far as I can tell. Sweet Slavery

Most days I wonder whether my simple life amounts to much.

I write. Does anyone even read it?  I run.  My feet and knees are starting to break down and I’ve never even run a sub-four hour marathon yet.  I teach my children and house my mother.  I’m a better student than I am a teacher.  Would Mom be better off somewhere else?  I clean my house.  Is my house ever really clean?  I cook and I wash clothes.  Will I ever learn to cook?  What does an iron do again?  I grocery shop and prepare crafts for girl scouts.  Good housewives use coupons, don’t they?  Less time on crafts and more time on figuring out the iron might be wise.  (more…)

Senselessness

Nothing creates more discord in the church than a body who desires individual praise for its works rather than simply doing good unto the Lord in faith and covertly practicing righteousness.  No greater schism occurs than that which happens when a few so-called believers begin to elevate themselves, praise their own deeds and lose sight of the God who is to be the object and center of all praise everywhere.  This kind of idolatry flies in the face of scripture and is an abomination to the Lord.

Daddy’s Coming

Once in a while I will ask Mia, my oldest daughter, to instruct my younger daughters on my behalf.  If I’m attending to other things, I will send Mia upstairs to help Maylee get dressed or tell Addie to come down and eat her breakfast.  Often times her little sisters do not listen to her.  They ignore her as if she’d come up with the instructions on her own.  But, because Mia has told them, “Mommy said” to do thus and so, they do know full well what they ought to be doing.  When Mommy comes upstairs, they are responsible for disobeying.  When Mommy shows up, they generally retreat and obey.  When Daddy shows up, though, they quickly retreat and obey. Reason to Praise

Every store has a front aisle jammed with magazines created for the purpose of people worship.  When we really think about it, we have no reason to praise rich and famous people other than the fact that they are rich and famous.  They haven’t done anything spectacular besides be in the right place at the right time and happen to be born with good genes.  Yet we praise them.  Even those who have accomplished noteworthy things have only done so because of the talents and gifts God has given them.  Yet we praise them.  We praise their talents, their beauty, their accomplishments when all the while we tend to forget the God that gave all those things to them.

Abel-People

The other day I saw a shirt that fit Addie’s personality and I bought it for her.  From the minute Mia saw it she insisted that she had to have the same one.  Even though I had bought something else that was fitting for her, she only wanted what Addie had.

Praise Him!

Psalm 111 was written by David and is titled “Hallelujah”.  He actually began each line with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet sequentially in an effort to praise God.

Praise the LORD!
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation. ~Psalm 111:1 (more…)
